Our Sunday
School consists of students from ages 3 to young adult (18-20 yrs old) with
small classes, thus allowing us to provide more individual attention and also
for teachers to try new and interesting things. Some classes provide special
craft projects, others integrate games such as “Jeopardy” into their Christian
curriculum, still others may use simple modeling clay to help their class
better understand the Christian message.
We start our
Sunday School year with our annual "Rally Day" where games are played
such as our "Fishers of Men" goldfish toss, or the "God's
Promise" rainbow balloon dart game. The children always enjoy this and
everyone ends up with a prize or two.
During the
Sunday School year, which is September - May, we begin each Sunday with
approximately 15 minutes in the church area where our music director teaches
praise songs to the children, which they in turn sing for the congregation once
a month. After the 15 minute opening, the children go to their individual
classrooms where "Our Life in Christ " curriculum by Concordia
Publishing House is taught. We find this to be one of the best Christ-centered
programs around as it provides many different ways for the teachers to interact
with the children to get the true Christian message across, and apply it to
their everyday lives.
At Christmas time we focus on the Christmas Pageant where even the
youngest 3 and 4 year olds have a part. The teens and young adults always help
by making our props, posters, or banners. We practice the songs in our opening
and have two special Saturday practices. On the last Saturday practice we have
a birthday party for Jesus with hot dogs, chips, relishes and, of course, the
birthday cake. Everyone enjoys singing “Happy Birthday” to Jesus!
When Easter
rolls around everyone gets ready for our annual "Community Easter Egg
Hunt." Even the Sunday School children get involved by coloring posters
for this big event. Special prizes are awarded for first, second, and third
place best colored in each class, but everyone gets a "Thank You"
gift for helping.
We finish off
the Sunday School year by celebrating everybody's birthday on one big day. We
call it the annual "Birthday Bash". We have games, prizes, birthday
cake, and even rent a Moonwalk for the children to enjoy!
The best part
of our Sunday School is our teachers! They are loving, kind, patient, and best
of all, they feel honored that God called them to teach His children. We are
truly blessed!
